Dengue claims two more lives as 639 fresh cases recorded

Health officials on Thursday reported 639 fresh dengue cases and two deaths from the disease in the past 24 hours.

According to a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement, 80 patients were hospitalised in Barishal division, 95 in Chattogram division, 92 in Dhaka division, 109 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) areas and 100 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas.

Another 103 patients were hospitalised in Khulna division, 43 in Mymensingh, 51 in Rajshahi, 15 in Rangpur and five in Sylhet during the period.

With the latest figures, the number of dengue deaths in Bangladesh this year has risen to 65, while the cumulative number of cases has reached 22,243.

Last year, dengue claimed 413 lives and infected 102,861 people across the country.

In 2024, the disease claimed 575 lives and infected 101,214 people.
