Four more suspected measles deaths push toll to 894

Four more children suspected of having measles have died in the 24 hours to 8am on Friday, raising Bangladesh’s combined tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 894.

With the latest deaths, the number of suspected measles deaths has risen to 795, while laboratory-confirmed measles deaths stand at 99, according to data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The country also recorded 972 new suspected measles cases during the 24-hour period, taking the cumulative number of suspected cases to 141,070.

Meanwhile, 187 new laboratory-confirmed measles cases were reported, raising the total number of confirmed infections to 17,730.

Since March 15, a total of 122,794 patients suspected of having measles have been hospitalised across the country, according to DGHS data.

Of them, 118,540 patients have recovered.
