Govt expanding healthcare facilities: State Minister

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit said the government has been taking various initiatives to expand healthcare facilities to ensure quality treatment for the people.

"Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has already inaugurated the construction of a 500-bed hospital at Jashore Medical College and work on the project is progressing," he said.

The state minister was speaking as the chief guest at an annual art exhibition at the premises of SM Sultan Fine Arts College, organised to mark the 103rd birth anniversary of renowned artist SM Sultan.

Principal of the college Shamim Iqbal chaired the event.

Amit said the 250-bed Jashore General Hospital is also being upgraded with a full-fledged Coronary Care Unit (CCU), which will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister after completion.

He added that Jashore Shishu Hospital would also be expanded and brought into operation on a larger scale to provide improved healthcare services to children.

"Once these initiatives are implemented, people in the Jashore region will receive much better healthcare services than before," he said.

He further said, "If possible, land would be provided to SM Sultan Fine Arts College at a nominal price."

The state minister added the process of establishing democracy at every level of society has begun under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

District BNP President Advocate Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, General Secretary and District Council Administrator Delwar Hossain Khokon, and Jashore Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mizanur Rahman Khan addressed the event as special guests.

Among others, District BNP Organising Secretary Engineer Robiul Islam, former executive committee member AK Sharfuddoula Chhotlu, City BNP General Secretary Ehsanul Haque Setu, and Sadar Upazila BNP General Secretary Anjurul Haque Khokon were present.
