Sylhet sees four more suspected measles deaths; division’s toll reaches 164
Four children died with measles-like symptoms in Sylhet division in the 24 hours until Monday morning, raising the total number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths in the division to 164.
They died while undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, according to a report released by the Office of the Divisional Director of Health, Sylhet.
Of the deceased, two were from Sylhet, one from Sunamganj and one from Habiganj. Three died at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, while the other died at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.
According to the report, the victims were from Kanaighat and Zakiganj in Sylhet, Jagannathpur upazila in Sunamganj, and the Putijuri area of Bahubal upazila in Habiganj.
Of the total deaths, 10 were confirmed to have died from measles, while 154 died with symptoms of the disease.
Meanwhile, 146 new patients with measles or related symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the division in the past 24 hours. Currently, 495 patients are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
However, no new measles infections were detected through sample testing during the period.
