Three children die with measles symptoms, woman dies of dengue in Sylhet

Four people, including three children, died from measles symptoms and dengue in Sylhet division in the past 24 hours.

The information was disclosed in a report released by the office of the Divisional Director of Health in Sylhet on Wednesday.

The three children died while undergoing treatment for suspected measles at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, while the 60-year-old woman died of dengue.

The deceased children were Samiha, aged 3 years and 8 months, from Dowarabazar upazila of Sunamganj; Parash, aged 7 months, from Dirai upazila of the same district; and Ilma, aged 1 year and 8 months, from Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar.

The woman who died of dengue was 60-year-old Solima Begum, a resident of Juri upazila in Moulvibazar.

No new confirmed measles cases were detected in the past 24 hours. However, 193 new suspected measles patients were admitted to hospitals during the period.

Currently, 518 suspected measles patients are receiving treatment at hospitals across the division. So far, 168 people have died from measles or symptoms of the disease.

Meanwhile, nine new dengue patients were diagnosed in the past 24 hours. Five are undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and four at Habiganj Sadar Hospital.

Currently, 24 dengue patients are admitted to hospitals across Sylhet division. A total of 301 dengue cases have been detected in the division since January 1, with three deaths recorded so far – one each in Sylhet, Habiganj and Moulvibazar districts.
