Dengue toll climbs to 271 as 9 more die in a day

Nine more people died of dengue and 1,902 new patients were hospitalised across Bangladesh in the 24 hours until 8am Monday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the latest fatalities, the dengue death toll has risen to 271 this year.

Of the nine deaths, three were reported in the Dhaka North City Corporation area, two in Barishal division, and one each in Chattogram, Khulna, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.

Of the total deaths recorded this year, 47.9% were men and 52.1% were women.

Since January 1, a total of 88,360 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country, with 82,335 recovering.

According to the DGHS, 74 dengue deaths have been reported in Dhaka South City Corporation, 52 in Khulna division, 33 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 25 in Chattogram division, 23 in Mymensingh division, 22 in Barishal division, 18 in Rajshahi division, 16 in Dhaka division, six in Rangpur and two in Sylhet division.
