Awami League propaganda has made July Uprising stronger this year: Mahfuj Alam

Updated on

Mahfuj Alam, the interim government's information adviser, said on Wednesday that propaganda by the Awami League and its supporters has strengthened the July Uprising this year by reviving public interest and boosting engagement around its second anniversary.

In a Facebook post, Alam, one of the main faces of July Uprising, said the more the Awami League and what he described as its "cultural enforcers" spread "lies, abuse and propaganda" about July, the stronger the movement would become.

He argued that many of those who had worked tirelessly before the July uprising had grown complacent over the past two years, but this year's anniversary is being observed in a markedly different atmosphere, with the movement "returning to the people."

Alam claimed that social media activity surrounding July was significantly higher on the first day of the month than during the 2025 anniversary, attributing the renewed interest to “sustained attacks on the uprising.”

In a sarcastic remark, he thanked the Awami League's supporters, saying their criticism had helped shake people out of complacency and reminded them of the movement's political significance.
