Awami League's 'political death' came on August 5, now they are 'buried in delhi': Salahuddin

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the Awami League suffered its "political death" through the student-led mass uprising of Aug. 5, 2024, and was "buried in Delhi."

He made the remarks on Saturday while addressing the "July National Conference 2026" at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Agargaon, Dhaka. 

The event was organized to mark the anniversary of the July-August mass uprising, mourning and victory.

Salahuddin said the Awami League would soon be brought to trial as a political party on charges of terrorist activities.

Calling on all political forces to remain united, he said: "The nation has high expectations for rebuilding the Bangladesh of tomorrow. Given the country's economic situation, everyone must exercise patience. The government is working according to its plan."
