NCP targets committees in all 500 upazilas by Oct 15

The National Citizen Party (NCP) plans to have convening committees in all 500 upazilas across Bangladesh by October 15 as it pushes to expand its organisational network nationwide.

NCP Chief Organiser Sarjis Alam said Wednesday that the party had completed the process of forming convening committees in 276 of the country’s 500 upazilas as of September 30.

That leaves 224 upazilas where committees would need to be formed over the next two weeks to meet the target.

“Insha’Allah, by October 15, NCP convening committees will be in place in all 500 upazilas across Bangladesh,” Sarjis said.

The party is also expanding its organisation across metropolitan areas.

Excluding Dhaka’s two metropolitan areas, NCP has completed the formation of convening committees in 34 of 61 police station jurisdictions across the country’s other 11 metropolitan areas, according to Sarjis.

The party has set separate deadlines for extending its organisational structure to municipalities and unions.

“We are also working towards forming NCP convening committees in all 330 municipalities across Bangladesh by October 30 and in all 4,600 unions by November 30,” Sarjis said.

The targets would require NCP to form committees in 224 more upazilas by October 15, while simultaneously expanding its organisational presence across hundreds of municipalities and thousands of unions over the next two months.
