Rashed alleges secret meeting between Jamaat leaders and senior Indian intelligence official

Updated on:

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s political assistant, Md Rashed Khan, has alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar and party leader A T M Ma'sum held a secret meeting with a senior Indian intelligence official in Dhaka on October 16.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Rashed claimed that the meeting took place at a house in Baridhara after Maghrib prayers, with three people attending, including Porwar and Ma'sum.

Questioning the purpose of the alleged meeting, Rashed asked why leaders of a party that frequently speaks out against India would hold a private meeting with a senior Indian intelligence official.

He argued that meeting an Indian diplomat was different from holding discussions with a senior intelligence official.

Rashed called on Porwar to clarify the circumstances and purpose of the alleged meeting, saying that transparency was necessary if the Jamaat leader believed in ethical politics.

Otherwise, Rashed suggested, the meeting could raise suspicions of a conspiracy against the state.

He further alleged that the first step in the purported conspiracy involved plans for Jamaat to launch a political movement alongside the Awami League.
