‘Wherever they stop us will become our Jantar Mantar’, CJP’s Dipke on October 10 protest in Delhi

Updated on:

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) will hold a mass protest in New Delhi on October 10 if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar does not resign, with party founder and convener Abhijeet Dipke saying protesters will turn any place where police stop them into their “Jantar Mantar”, The Telegraph reports.

The CJP has been demanding Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in India’s electoral processes and the conduct of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Dipke said citizens and CJP members from across India would converge on New Delhi for the protest at Jantar Mantar if Kumar remains in office.

“If Gyanesh Kumar doesn't resign, cockroaches from across India will march to Delhi and protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10,” Dipke said.

“And if the Delhi Police tries to stop us, wherever they stop us will become our Jantar Mantar. Ours will be a peaceful protest. We will walk on the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi,” he said.

According to a CJP statement, the protest will “strictly follow a non-violent philosophy” and draw inspiration from historic civil disobedience movements aimed at protecting public faith in democratic institutions.

The party said “bureaucratic blockades” would not deter its movement, pointing to previous prolonged demonstrations and recent detentions as evidence of its resolve.

“This is a fight to save our democracy,” Dipke said. “Every citizen who wants free and fair elections must join us on October 10.”

The announcement came a day after the CJP held a protest at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park, where thousands gathered despite police restrictions to demand Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls.

The Mumbai protest also featured calls for a fresh agitation in Delhi if Kumar failed to step down.
