Table tennis, kabaddi teams stranded at Bangkok airport while returning from Asian Games

Several members of Bangladesh’s table tennis contingent for the Asian Games 2026 have been stranded at an airport in Bangkok for two days due to flight cancellations and delays after severe flash floods in the region.

A total of five players – Ramhim Liam Bom, Imrul Kayes Emon, Sonam Sultana Soma, Nowrin Sultana Mahi and Samantha Hossain Tushi – and coach Mohsinul Alam Jhinu are currently stuck at the Suvarnabhumi Airport in the Thailand capital, while en route to Bangladesh after competing in the Aichi-Nagoya Games in Japan.

The table tennis team’s troubles began from Japan, when their scheduled flight to Bangkok was delayed by around 12 hours owing to Typhoon Surigae.

Due to their delayed arrival in Bangkok, they missed their scheduled Thai Airways flight to Dhaka, and, since then, have been stuck at the airport.

According to reports from local outlets, the airport is experiencing a shortage in staff as many of them are unable to travel to the airport owing to severe waterlogging.

On Sunday, the 14-member kabaddi team also arrived at the same airport and are similarly stuck.

The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) is working to arrange alternative flights for the athletes.
