Medal confirmed as Bangladesh crush Scotland to reach Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship semi-finals
Bangladesh beat Scotland 70-20 in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 29, to reach the semi-finals of the inaugural Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship and confirm a medal. They will now face hosts India in the last four, with the tie set for Friday.
Mizanur and Nasir led the way at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, where Scotland never found a foothold. Bangladesh were dominant in both raiding and defence from the opening exchanges, and the final margin of 50 points left no doubt about the better side.
The win lifted Bangladesh to eight points from four victories in Group B, enough to finish second in the standings. Kenya took the other semi-final place from the group, while India and Sri Lanka advanced from Group A.
Bangladesh had opened the tournament with a 67-28 win over Canada, then lost 32-31 to Kenya in a tight second match. Victories over Singapore (60-28) and Australia (69-31) followed, setting up a chance to seal progress, which they took emphatically against Scotland.
India topped Group A by beating Sri Lanka 45-24 in their final fixture, finishing the group stage undefeated. As the top seed, they now meet Group B runners-up Bangladesh, who will go into the match with a medal already guaranteed.
The second semi-final will see Sri Lanka face Kenya at the same venue on Friday. Whoever wins each tie will move into the final, while the beaten semi-finalists will have to settle for a joint bronze medal.
