Landslide death toll rises in China's Gansu Province as heavy rains continue

Flash floods in Gansu Province in China's northwest last ​week killed 25 people and ‌injured 23 more, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday, raising earlier ​death tolls.

Initial reports said 10 people had died after torrential rain struck Weiyuan County in Dingxi City, Gansu Province, on July 26. China's National Commission for Disaster Prevention, Reduction and Relief has requested Gansu provincial authorities to carry out investigations and damage assessments, according to state news agency Xinhua.

Authorities have also warned of further landslides, including in Dingxi, as heavy rain continues during the country's annual flood season.

Meanwhile, weather alerts remained in place on Sunday for Beijing and Inner Mongolia, while heavy to torrential rainfall continued across large parts of Sichuan Province. State broadcaster CCTV reported that 64,609 people have been evacuated in Sichuan, with more than 881,000 residents relocated since the start of the annual flood season.
