Ex-Malaysian PM Mahathir admitted to hospital two days after wife’s death

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, 101, has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) and is under observation, days after the death of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.

Mahathir’s son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, confirmed on Wednesday that his father was admitted to IJN on Tuesday and was resting while doctors monitored his condition.

His long-time aide, Sufi Yusoff, said there was no immediate cause for concern as the family awaited further updates from the medical team.

The hospital admission came two days after Siti Hasmah died at IJN on September 28 at the age of 100. She and Mahathir had been married for more than seven decades.

Mahathir was present during her final days and funeral rites before she was laid to rest at Pusara Negara in Putrajaya.

The family has not provided further details about Mahathir’s condition.
