The much-discussed albino buffalo named “Donald Trump” has been brought from the National Zoo in Mirpur, Dhaka, to the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) in Savar for research purposes.
It is currently being kept in quarantine.
Officials at the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) said on Sunday, under the directive of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, the buffalo was formally handed over to BLRI from the National Zoo.
The BLRI authorities have already formed a 13-member committee to monitor the buffalo’s current condition and conduct research, headed by Gautam Kumar Dev, Chief Scientific Officer and Head of the Buffalo Production Research Division.
Dev said the buffalo has been placed in quarantine.
Since the buffalo had been at the zoo, it will remain in quarantine for the next 14 to 21 days.
During this period, the highest priority will be given to ensuring that the buffalo is disease-free and remains disease-free.
After that, consideration will be given to how the buffalo can be used for research.
It may be recalled that before the last Eid-ul-Adha, the buffalo was being raised at Zia Uddin Mridha’s “Rabeya Agro Farm” in Paikpara, Narayanganj city.
After seeing the buffalo’s “extraordinary hair”, Zia Uddin’s brother named it after US President Donald Trump.
Later, various media outlets published reports on the buffalo.
In addition, reports and videos about it were published by several international media outlets.
Zia Uddin Mridha sold the buffalo to Moniruzzaman of Zinjira in Keraniganj.
Ahead of Eid, on 25 May, Moniruzzaman brought the buffalo from the farm in Narayanganj to his home in Keraniganj.
On the afternoon of the day before Eid, police took the buffalo from Moniruzzaman’s house following the intervention of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
It was initially taken to Keraniganj Police Station.
Later, the buffalo was housed at the National Zoo in Mirpur.
