“I pray that the Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, makes a speedy and full recovery. May Allah bless him with lasting health and strength. The people of Bangladesh join me in conveying our warmest wishes to our nation’s valued friend,” he said in a message on Monday night.

According to Malaysian media, Anwar Ibrahim underwent an elective laparoscopic surgical procedure on Monday to treat an abdominal hernia (para-umbilical hernia).

The Malaysian Prime Minister's Medical Team head, Datuk Dr Asri Ranga Abdullah Ramaiah, said the procedure went smoothly under the care of a team of medical specialists.

He said Anwar Ibrahim is currently undergoing physiotherapy and remains under the close supervision of the medical specialist team.
