Jatyio Shangshad has formed 10 more parliamentary standing committees overseeing key ministries, including agriculture, education, road transport, civil aviation, information and broadcasting, and environment.

Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam moved the proposals during Wednesday’s parliamentary session, chaired by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal. The House unanimously approved them by voice vote.

BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy will chair the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Agriculture, while Mohammad Selim Bhuiyan will head the committee on the Ministry of Education.

Rakibul Islam has been named chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, while Abul Kalam Azad Siddiqui will lead the committee overseeing the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.

Kalim Uddin Ahmed will chair the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.

Md Amanullah Aman has been appointed chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The committee includes Information and Broadcasting Minister Andalib Rahman and State Minister Yaser Khan Chowdhury.

Alhaj Mohammad G K Gaus will head the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, with Environment Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo among its members.

Naser Rahman has been named chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Land, while Rafiqul Islam Jamal will lead the committee overseeing the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Selima Rahman will chair the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.

The respective ministers are members of the committees overseeing their ministries, alongside lawmakers appointed by parliament.

Parliamentary standing committees scrutinise the activities of ministries, examine legislation and spending, and can seek information and explanations from government agencies under their jurisdiction.
