A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed former Netrokona-1 MP Mustaque Ahmed Ruhi on a four-day remand in a case filed over the killing of courier service employee Raju Ahmed in Mohammadpur during the July 2024 Mass Uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ismail passed the order after police sought a seven-day remand for the former lawmaker.

Police arrested Ruhi from a house in Mohammadpur’s Iqbal Road area on September 23. He was later sent to jail in the case.

According to the case documents, a peaceful procession came under gunfire in front of an apartment next to Janani Courier Service in Mohammadpur’s Banshbari area on July 19, 2024.

Raju, a courier service employee, was watching the procession from outside his workplace when he was shot. Locals took him to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Raju’s father filed a case with Mohammadpur Police Station on August 27, 2024, over the killing.
