Staff Correspondent

The government on Tuesday replaced Industrial Police chief Gazi Jasim Uddin amid ongoing garment workers' protests demanding higher wages.

The move came as the government made major changes to the police administration, transferring seven senior police officials.

As part of the reshuffle, Gazi Jasim Uddin was transferred to the Police Telecommunications Organisation in Rajarbagh.

Meanwhile, the government promoted Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Israil Howlader to the rank of additional inspector general of police (Additional IGP) and appointed him as the new chief of Industrial Police.

The Industrial Police oversee law enforcement in industrial areas, including Dhaka and Gazipur.
