BATEXPO 2026 to spotlight Bangladesh’s sustainable apparel transformation through ‘Impact Zone’

Staff Correspondent

Bangladesh’s progress towards sustainable and responsible apparel manufacturing will be showcased through a dedicated ‘Impact Zone’ at BATEXPO 2026, highlighting the country’s ongoing transformation in environmental sustainability, social responsibility and governance in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) said on Tuesday.

The Zone will demonstrate how the country’s apparel industry is adopting next-generation manufacturing practices to meet evolving global expectations, strengthen supply chain transparency and enhance its competitiveness in international markets, according to a BGMEA press release.

Commenting on the initiative, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan said the Zone would offer a comprehensive picture of the industry’s transformation amid growing emphasis on climate action, resource efficiency and the circular economy.

“This is not merely a story of compliance; it is the story of a distinctive and responsible journey towards leadership in global markets,” he told Daily Waadaa.

Vidiya Amrit Khan, BGMEA vice president and the driving force behind the initiative, stressed the need to prepare the country’s apparel industry for emerging sustainability requirements while taking a proactive role in shaping the future of responsible manufacturing.

“Bangladesh’s apparel industry must be prepared not only to meet evolving global sustainability requirements but also to lead the transition towards responsible manufacturing. The Impact Zone will demonstrate our progress in decarbonisation, circularity, worker wellbeing and digital traceability, including the Digital Product Passport. Our ambition is to position Bangladesh as a trusted, forward-looking partner in the global shift towards sustainable apparel production,” she said.

Moving beyond conventional compliance, the initiative seeks to highlight the industry’s broader shift towards responsible production, efficient resource management and sustainable industrial practices.

The exhibition will feature initiatives in decarbonisation, renewable energy, recycling, circularity and resource efficiency, alongside programmes focusing on gender equity, worker health and nutrition, childcare, and maternal care.

It will also showcase digital traceability solutions, including the Digital Product Passport (DPP), in response to evolving European Union (EU) regulations and growing demand for greater transparency across global supply chains.

The platform is expected to highlight how integrating environmental performance, worker wellbeing and digital transparency into the apparel value chain can help strengthen partnerships with international buyers and reinforce Bangladesh’s position in an increasingly sustainability-driven global market.

Organised by BGMEA, with PDS Limited as the title sponsor, BATEXPO 2026 will take place on November 18–19 at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka.

The Impact Zone will be a key feature of the expo, bringing together the industry’s sustainability priorities and future ambitions in a unified showcase of Bangladesh’s evolving apparel manufacturing landscape.
