Bangladesh camp in Australia is hit with yet another injury concern just days prior to the two-Test series against the hosts as left-arm spinner Taijul Islam has hurt his bowling finger during the ongoing three-day tour match against the Cricket Australia XI in Darwin on Friday.

Taijul, who made 10 off 15 with the bat on the opening day on Thursday, did not bowl a single over on Day 2.

National team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan revealed the reason after the day’s play, saying the spinner had hurt himself while batting.

“Yesterday while batting, Taijul Islam hurt his bowling finger, it has caused a contusion. After that, we bandaged it up and rested him for the entire day today,” Bayjedul said in a video sent by the BCB.

“We will observe him again tomorrow,” he concluded.

In Taijul’s place, youngster Mushfik Hasan was on the field on Day 2.

“In his [Taijul’s] place – after speaking with their [Cricket Australia XI's] management and the umpires that this is an opportunity for us to see Mushfik and they agreed – Mushfik bowled today,” Bangladesh team manager Nafees Iqbal explained.

Mushfik, however, had a terrible outing, going wickless in his four overs, where he leaked 38 runs.

The Bangladesh team are in Australia for their first Test series Down Under in 23 years with an injury-hit squad.

Star pacer Nahid Rana has already been ruled out of the tour, while left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam is set to miss the first Test and is in a race against time to be available for the second one.

Experienced wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das was a late addition to the squad for the first Test after a quick recovery from a calf injury, but is not a shoo-in for the match.
