Bangladesh were rolled over for a mere 54 in their second innings to suffer an embarrassing innings and 38-run defeat on the final day of the three-day tour match against a Cricket Australia XI in Darwin on Saturday.
Bangladesh, who began the day on 19-2, could add just 35 runs before losing all remaining wickets inside the morning session.
Young left-arm pacer Campbell Thomas was the chief destroyer, finishing with incredible figures of 8-25 to rout the visitors.
Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim was the only batter to get into double figures, making 22 off 41 balls before getting trapped LBW by Thompson.
The 22-year-old pacer, who has played only one first-class match in his career, kept hitting the off-stump line on a consistent basis, and the Bangladesh batters eventually made mistakes.
Opener Shadman Islam (six) had top-edged a pull shot to get caught and Mominul Haque (six) was dismissed LBW by Thompson late on the second day.
On the final day, he first had Soumya Sarkar (five) caught at slip, then rattled Mushfiqur Rahim’s (two) off-stump.
He completed his five-wicket haul by removing Tanzid and then wrapped skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto on the pads for a duck.
Off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli, who had taken six wickets in the first innings, had Amite Hasan (four) and previous innings’ centurion Mehidy Hasan Miraz (six) caught behind before Thompson returned to clean up the tail, rattling the stumps of Taskin Ahmed (0) and Ebadot Hossain (0).

Australia have picked a full-strength squad for the two-Test series, beginning on August 13, which includes its famed pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood.
Bangladesh batters did poorly on a bouncy surface in Harare against Zimbabwe in June – where they had also suffered an innings defeat – and have looked vulnerable against seam movement in the tour match.
The batters will face a sterner test in the Test series, and have only a handful of days remaining to work out the issues.
Earlier in the match, Miraz’s 109 helped Bangladesh post 263 on the opening day after opting to bat first.
Hasan Mahmud picked up a four-fer, but Teague Wyllie’s 130 propelled CA XI to 355 in reply to take a 92-run lead, which proved too much for a frail Bangladesh batting line-up.
