BCB president Tamim Iqbal has described Bangladesh's historic Test win over Australia as an outstanding achievement built entirely by the players and team management, while expressing hope that such results can now become a regular occurrence rather than a one-off.
Speaking to reporters at a livelier than usual BCB office on Sunday, Tamim praised the scale of what Bangladesh had managed in Darwin.
"I think this is an outstanding victory, an outstanding achievement. Playing in Australia is very difficult for any team. After going there 23 years later, the way Bangladesh played their cricket and won, 100 per cent of the credit goes to them."
He was insistent that the board itself deserved none of the credit for the result.
"The players, team management, selectors, everyone deserves credit. We at the board are only there to support them, provide facilities and guide them. No one else deserves credit for this achievement; it belongs entirely to the team management, selectors and players."
The fact that we are even talking about this (WTC final) possibility proves that Bangladesh cricket is playing well consistently. Mathematically, it is possible. But what is more important to me is maintaining the kind of cricket they are playing now.Tamim Iqbal, BCB president
Tamim also spoke with the players shortly after the match and joined a video call involving Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to mark the occasion.
During his own near 15-year international career, he never got the chance to play a Test in Australia himself, making Sunday's celebrations as BCB president a moment tinged with personal significance.
Bangladesh's nine-wicket win, achieved without the toss and after being missing key personnel, stands as the biggest Test victory by wickets recorded by an Asian side in Australia.
Pakistan have not won there this century, and Sri Lanka have never managed it at all, underlining the scale of what Bangladesh have now achieved on foreign soil.
Asked about a possible bonus for the squad, Tamim declined to give specifics. "Let the matter of the bonus remain between us. We will discuss it with the players. As the Bangladesh Cricket Board, we are extremely proud of the players for this achievement. This victory will send a big message internationally. It is not just a victory; it is a strong message."
The win has also sharpened talk of a possible route to the World Test Championship final, with Bangladesh currently fourth in the standings and set to play two home Tests each against West Indies and England, alongside two away Tests in South Africa and the remainder of the series in Australia.
Tamim was careful not to get ahead of himself on the mathematics, even while acknowledging the possibility exists.
"The fact that we are even talking about this possibility proves that Bangladesh cricket is playing well consistently. Mathematically, it is possible. But what is more important to me is maintaining the kind of cricket they are playing now."
He preferred to focus on sustaining current form rather than the finer detail of qualification scenarios. "The way they are playing, anything is possible. I do not want to think too far ahead. It is the job of the team management and players; they will think about it."
