Shanto, Hasan make big leaps after Darwin win in ICC Test rankings

Bangladesh cricketers made significant gains in the latest ICC Test rankings following their landmark nine-wicket victory over Australia in Darwin.

Coming to tour for a Test series Down Under for the first time in 24 years, Bangladesh players collectively produced a memorable performance, which reflected in the ICC rankings.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was among the biggest gainers, climbing nine places to 20th in the Test batting rankings after scoring a crucial 84 in the first innings. Veteran batter Mominul Haque also moved up five places to 31st.

Bangladesh's bowlers also made notable progress. Mehidy Hasan Miraz rose three places to 24th after taking five wickets in the second innings.

Fast bowler Hasan Mahmud, who became the first Bangladeshi bowler to claim a five-for on Australian soil registered the biggest jump of the week. After snapping up nine wickets in the match and earning the Player-of-the-Match award, he surged 26 places to 38th in the Test bowling rankings.

Australia's Travis Head, meanwhile, slipped three places to fourth after scores of 22 and 17 in the two innings. England's Harry Brook reclaimed the top spot among Test batters, with teammate Joe Root second and Australia's Steve Smith third. The gap between the top four is just 33 rating points.

India's Jasprit Bumrah retained the No. 1 position in the Test bowling rankings.
