Mushfiqur shakes off injury scare in nets

Bangladesh endured a nervy training session in Mackay on Thursday after Mushfiqur Rahim was struck on the hand in the nets, though head coach Phil Simmons quickly moved to ease concerns before the second Test against Australia begins on August 22.

Footage shared by Cricinfo showed the veteran wicketkeeper batter on his knees, clutching his hand after taking a blow from a fast bowler during batting practice. He needed treatment from the team physio on the field before the session continued.

"A brief scare for Bangladesh fans... Mushfiqur Rahim took a blow in the nets and needed some treatment, but head coach Phil Simmons has confirmed he’s fine and good to go," the caption of the video post read.

The scare briefly rattled supporters given Mushfiqur's importance to a Bangladesh side standing on the verge of history.

Their nine-wicket win in Darwin left them 1-0 up in the two-match series, with even a draw in Mackay enough to seal a first-ever Test series victory on Australian soil.

There was a second concern during the same session, with a separate net mishap also drawing attention.

Team sources said the issue was being monitored but was not considered serious enough to affect selection for Saturday's match.

Bangladesh's dominance in Darwin was built on a match haul of nine wickets from pacer Hasan Mahmud, including a first-innings six for 55 that bowled Australia out for 198.

The tourists then posted 426 in reply, driven by a century and contributions from captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Australia, fielding a full-strength eleven under Pat Cummins, were unable to match Bangladesh's all-round display and were dismissed for 284 in their second innings.

Chasing just 56 for victory, Mominul Haque finished the match in style with a boundary off Beau Webster.

Attention now turns to Mackay, where Australia will look to level the series on home soil.

Bangladesh's preparations continued at pace, with Shoriful Islam bowling an extended spell and receiving individual guidance from Simmons as both sides braced for a Test each will treat as a matter of pride.
