Mushfiqur leaves practice injured a day before West Indies Test

Sports Desk

Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim suffered a hand injury during training on Tuesday, a day before the first Test against West Indies in Mirpur.

Mushfiqur was struck on a finger by a ball delivered by a throwdown specialist in the nets. He received treatment from team physiotherapist Bayezidul Islam before leaving the training ground for the dressing room. The extent of the damage yet to be confirmed.

The injury could be a concern for Bangladesh, with the experienced batter being a key member of the Test side’s middle order.

Mushfiqur's absence would leave the team management considering alternatives for the middle order. Tawhid Hridoy and wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali Anik are among the options, with Hridoy potentially better placed to earn a place in the playing XI after his triple hundred against South Africa ‘A’ in Potchefstroom last month.

The two-match series is part of the World Test Championship, making the home fixtures important for Bangladesh's campaign.

The first Test will begin at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday, with play scheduled to start at 10:00 am local time.
