Bolluwood actor Kajol marked the 28th anniversary of Karan Johar’s directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, on 16 October by sharing a nostalgic photograph recreating her character Anjali Sharma’s iconic look from the 1998 romantic drama.

In the Instagram post, Kajol appeared in a red jacket with short hair, recalling the tomboyish style that made Anjali a memorable character in the film, which also starred Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji.

“Can magic ever be recreated? Here’s Anjali a couple of years later,” Kajol captioned the photograph.

Released on 16 October 1998, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai explored friendship and unrequited love. The film also featured Salman Khan in an extended cameo and became a major box-office success, remaining a prominent reference point in late-1990s Hindi cinema.

Kajol’s portrayal of Anjali’s transformation from a tomboyish college student, known for her dungarees, headbands and short hair, into a more traditionally feminine woman formed a key part of the film’s narrative.

Kajol later reunited with Johar for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) and My Name Is Khan (2010), both of which also starred Shah Rukh Khan.

Kajol’s most recent theatrical release was Maa (2025), a mythological horror film directed by Vishal Furia and set in the same universe as the 2024 film Shaitaan. Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta and Kherin Sharma also featured in the film, which was co-produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande and Kumar Mangat Pathak.

The actor also appeared in the 2025 JioHotstar action thriller Sarzameen, alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan.
