Bangladeshi origin teenager Cavan Sullivan wrote his name into the record books once again on Sunday, becoming the youngest player in Major League Soccer history to register a goal contribution in four consecutive matches, doing so at just 16 years and 336 days old.
Sullivan struck in the 50th minute as Philadelphia Union beat New York Red Bulls 3-1 on the road, doubling his side's lead after cutting inside the box and beating two defenders before finding the net.
It marked his third goal of the season in his 34th professional appearance and his second goal in as many matches.
The achievement also places him among an elite group in league history, becoming only the third player aged 18 or under to record a goal contribution, either a goal or an assist, in four straight matches, following a breakthrough season that began with him waiting until this campaign for his first professional goal and assist.
Philadelphia had taken the lead earlier through Milan Iloski, whose 21st minute finish was his 11th goal of the season, the best single campaign tally of his career, assisted by Indiana Vassilev and Danley Jean Jacques.
Neil Pierre, another teenage talent, extended the lead further in the 65th minute, netting his fourth goal in seven appearances this season with an assist from Bruno Damiani and Iloski.
New York pulled one back in the 74th minute through Eric Maxim Choupo Moting, who scored his third goal of the campaign after netting 17 last season, but it proved too little to prevent defeat.
Goalkeeper Andre Blake made three important saves at the other end to preserve Philadelphia's victory, while New York's Ethan Horvath was called into action just once.
The result ended the Red Bulls' seven match unbeaten run and handed Philadelphia their sixth win in 20 visits to their opponents' home ground, edging the overall head to head record to 17-15.

Sullivan's rising form arrives at a significant moment for the wider United States setup, with the national team preparing to open their 2030 World Cup cycle next month against Peru, Chile, Mexico and Canada.
The teenager himself played down the speculation when asked about his international prospects.
"I am not really focused on the whole call-up thing. But I am happy that we are winning games and that I am making a difference," Sullivan told reporters.
"The goals and assists are coming. I am just trying to keep this momentum," he added.
Sullivan first made headlines in 2024, becoming the youngest footballer ever to debut in the United States' top professional division at just 14 years of age.
