Bangladesh head coach Thomas Dooley has named UK based winger Farhaan Ali Wahid in his starting eleven for the opening match of the FIFA ASEAN Cup against Malaysia, handing the 19 year old his first international cap.
The match, part of Group A in the tournament's inaugural edition, kicks off at 3pm Bangladesh time, with Dooley making a total of seven changes from the side that faced San Marino back in June.
Captain Jamal Bhuyan and Shekh Morsalin, both regulars in that earlier fixture, have been left out of the starting line up entirely, with Sohel Rana Sr instead taking on the captain's armband for this contest.
Several other familiar names have also dropped out of the wider squad altogether, with Topu Barman, Isa Faysal, Foysal Ahmed Fahim and Rafiq all missing from the 23 man group travelling for the tournament.
There has also been a change between the posts, with Dooley opting for young Bashundhara Kings goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan Srabon ahead of Mitul Marma, who had started in goal during the San Marino fixture.
Farhaan is expected to line up on the left side of a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Fahamedul Islam operating on the opposite flank and Shamit Shome playing in a more advanced role behind lone striker Rakib Hossain.
Rakib himself returns to the starting eleven having missed the previous fixture against San Marino, adding further attacking experience to a Bangladesh side built around several fresh faces in this squad.
In midfield, Premier League experienced Hamza Choudhury is expected to partner Sohel Rana Sr in a defensive holding role, screening a back line that features Zayyan Ahmed at left back and Saad Uddin on the right.
Tariq Kazi and Shakil Ahad Topu are set to form the central defensive partnership, completing a reshaped backline tasked with containing a Malaysian side boasting considerable overseas heritage among its own ranks.
Malaysia field at least ten players with family connections to countries including England, Finland, Belgium, Brazil and Argentina, underlining the increasingly international nature of squad building across the region's football landscape.
Ahead of kick off, Bangladesh captain Jamal Bhuyan publicly welcomed Farhaan's anticipated debut, posting a message of support for the young winger on social media before the team news was officially confirmed.
"I hope your debut will be what you have dreamt about my brother. Please have Farhan in your prayers," Jamal wrote.
