Rice late equaliser snatches a draw for Arsenal against Bayern

Sports Desk

Declan Rice struck a late equaliser to earn Arsenal a 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, cancelling out a Harry Kane penalty that had put the hosts ahead.

The result leaves Arsenal seventh and Bayern 14th in the league phase. Both sides remain unbeaten in Europe this season.

Arsenal lost Bukayo Saka to a quad injury inside 10 minutes. Eberechi Eze replaced him and gave Arsenal the lead in the 26th minute, firing a first-time left-footed finish after Martin Odegaard’s pass over the top.

VAR confirmed the goal, ruling Eze was played onside by Josip Stanisic.

Bayern levelled in the 35th minute. Kane threaded a perfectly weighted pass to Alphonso Davies, who ran in behind Jurrien Timber and stroked a right-footed finish into the bottom corner.

It extended Bayern’s scoring run at the Allianz to 46 games.

Both goalkeepers were busy after the break. Manuel Neuer clawed away a Bruno Guimaraes header, and David Raya pushed an Dayot Upamecano header away.

Bayern went ahead in the 61st minute. Kane’s shot struck Timber and then Gabriel’s arm, and the referee awarded a penalty. Kane waited for Raya to commit and stroked it into the net.

It was Kane’s 10th consecutive Champions League game with a goal, one short of Cristiano Ronaldo’s record.

Arsenal responded after bringing on Viktor Gyokeres. In the 81st minute, Rice passed to Timber, who found Gyokeres. The striker held off his marker and played the ball back into Rice’s path.

Rice hit a low shot past Neuer to level.

Bayern pushed for a winner, with Luis Diaz coming off the bench, but Arsenal held firm. Both sides had chances in the closing stages, and Mikel Arteta’s team had a point to take home.
