West Indies reached tea on 180 for four after 55 overs in Sylhet on Wednesday, adding 94 runs for the loss of Kevin Wickham in a session that belonged to Amir Jangoo. Hasan Mahmud took the only wicket in 29 overs.
Jangoo was unbeaten on 76 off 124 balls with a six and seven fours, after being dropped once. Justin Greaves was on 16 off 19 balls with two fours, and the pair will resume after the break with Bangladesh needing quick wickets.
The quicks have shared all four wickets, with Taskin Ahmed on two for 52 and Hasan Mahmud two for 58, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam are wicketless for 26 each and Nayeem Hasan for 17.
Hasan broke the stand by bowling Wickham for 61 off 145 balls, ending a 131-run stand. After a series of bouncers, he sent down a length ball, and the debutant hurried a stroke, the ball taking the outside edge before hitting off stump.
Hasan had missed a chance to remove Jangoo shortly earlier. Jangoo pulled a short ball off the top edge, and it came straight back at the bowler, who got a hand to it while bending down but could not hold on. Jangoo was on 68.
Wickham reached a fifty on Test debut off 123 balls, a single off Nayeem Hasan taking West Indies to 142 for three after 44 overs. Jangoo had hit Nayeem for six in that over and was on 65 off 99.
At the drinks break West Indies were 130 for three after 43 overs, Jangoo on 58 and Wickham on 45, having added 44 runs in 17 overs after lunch. Bangladesh used spinners at both ends, which slowed scoring and brought their over rate under control.
Jangoo and Wickham completed a century stand off 192 balls when Jangoo came down the track and lofted Taijul Islam over extra cover. The first fifty took 101 balls and the second 91, with West Indies 129 for three after 41 overs.
Jangoo reached fifty off 86 balls, only his second 50-plus score in Tests, with some luck, one edge dropping short of Litton Das and another passing the stumps. Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan conceded little from both ends but created few wicket-taking chances.
Taijul Islam and Taskin Ahmed bowled the first overs after lunch, and Jangoo and Wickham handled them comfortably to take West Indies past 100 for three in 30 overs, Wickham on 33 off 74 balls and Jangoo on 41 off 64.
West Indies had gone to lunch on 86 for three after losing three wickets for 27 runs in the first hour, with Taskin Ahmed taking two for 36 and Hasan Mahmud one.
