3 more children die of suspected measles, toll reaches 745

Three more children died with symptoms consistent with measles in the 24 hours until 8am on Wednesday, taking Bangladesh’s combined tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 745.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) classified the latest deaths as suspected measles fatalities.

With the latest update, the number of suspected measles deaths has risen to 652, while laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remain unchanged at 93.

During the period, 996 new suspected measles cases were reported, raising the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 108,180.

Meanwhile, 106 new laboratory-confirmed cases were recorded, taking the total number of confirmed measles infections to 13,070.

Since 15 March, a total of 91,270 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country, of whom 87,628 have recovered, according to DGHS data.
