Two children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8am on Friday, bringing the combined number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths in the country to 837, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest fatalities were all classified as suspected measles deaths.

With the new deaths, the number of suspected measles-related fatalities has risen to 741, while the number of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remains unchanged at 96.

The DGHS also reported 900 new suspected measles cases during the reporting period, taking the cumulative number of suspected infections nationwide to 128,310.

Meanwhile, 185 new laboratory-confirmed measles cases were recorded over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of confirmed infections to 16,059.

Since 15 March this year, a total of 110,987 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country. Of them, 106,859 have recovered, according to DGHS data.

Health authorities continue to monitor the outbreak as suspected and confirmed cases are being reported from different parts of the country.
