Police detained Khairul Islam Sajib, senior joint convener of Narayanganj district Jubo Dal and son of BNP's Narayanganj-3 (Sonargaon-Siddhirganj) MP Azharul Islam Mannan.

He was taken to the Detective Branch (DB) office of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for questioning.

Speaking to Daily Waadaa, DB Chief Shafiqul Islam confirmed the detention, but did not elaborate on the reasons.

“There are some allegations against him and we will question him on those,” he said.

Sajib was taken into custody from his home in the Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka.

He was later brought to the office of the superintendent of police in Narayanganj around 5:00pm for questioning.

He was then handed over to the DB after around an hour.

Meanwhile, local media reports that Sajib was picked up based on allegations of extortion against him.

No further details were available on the allegations as of filing this report at 9pm.
