The High Court on Monday granted bail to former MP and singer Momtaz Begum in two murder cases and one attempted murder case filed centring the July uprising.
An HC bench of Justice K M Zahid Sarwar Kajol and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher delivered the order.
Senior lawyers Motahar Hossain Saju and Sara Hossain, and Advocate Khairunnesa appeared for the petitioner.
Syeda Sazia Sharmin represented the state.
Advocate Motahar Hossain Saju said the HC granted bail to in two murder cases and one attempted murder case after making the rules absolute.
He said there are seven cases against Momtaz.
Earlier, she was granted bail in three cases in June 15, but the Chamber Court stayed the bail and directed the HC to hear the rules.
Folk singer Momtaz Begum served multiple terms as a member of parliament of the banned Awami League from the Manikganj-2 constituency.
Following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024 during the student-public uprising, she was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) police from a house in Dhanmondi in the capital on May 12 last year.
She was produced before a court the following day and sent to jail.
Several cases, including murder, have been filed against her at different police stations in Dhaka.
