Chatrodol president slams BNP MP for remarks on July Uprising

Staff Correspondent

Bangladesh Jatiyotabadi Chatrodol (JCD) President Rakibul Islam Rakib on Thursday strongly criticised BNP leader Nilufar Chowdhury Moni expressing his resentment over her comments regarding the July Uprising made during a television talk show.

"We reject your remarks with contempt," Rakib wrote in a post on his verified Facebook page.

“We expect that you will exercise greater restraint and show deeper respect when speaking about the July–August Uprising,” he added.

Moni made the remarks during a television talk show on Wednesday, where she described the July Uprising as "designed."

"Though I can't say whether it was a conspiracy," she said.

Referring to the killing of a student protester during the Uprising, Moni said, "There was no police at the front. If it was the police, the firing would have come from the front. It may have been a sniper from the upper floor of a building. Maybe. I still have many questions about July that remain unanswered."

Nilufar Chowdhury Moni is a BNP lawmaker elected to a reserved seat for women in the 13th National Parliament.
