Harare Test: Zimbabwe pile on runs as Bangladesh face uphill battle

Bangladesh’s plight worsened on Day 2 of the one -off Test against Zimbabwe as the hosts extended their first-innings lead and the visitors are at risk of an innings defeat at the Harare Sports Club on Monday.

After Bangladesh were bowled out for 140 in their first innings on Day 1, Zimbabwe’s opener Innocent Kaia made 140 while Wessley Madhevere (77 not out), Craig Ervine (60) and Brian Bennet (59) hit half-centuries as Zimbabwe posted 410 in their first innings.

Bangladesh all out for their 3rd-lowest total in Tests against Zimbabwe

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam bowled 40.2 overs for his seven-wicket haul while pacers Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed remained wicketless.

Bangladesh batted nine overs late in the day, made 40 runs but lost the wicket of Shadman Islam for nine.

Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy remained unbeaten on 21 off 26 balls, while Mominul Haque was not out on nine.

Bangladesh ended the day still trailing by 230 runs.
