Bangladesh Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is set to join the team in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ahead of their one-off Test against Afghanistan, the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed on Monday.

“Najmul Hossain Shanto, Captain of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team (Test), will travel to the UAE this evening to join the team,” BCB cricket operations in-charge Shahriar Nafees informed the media on Monday.

Earlier, Shanto had to return home from Japan after getting ruled out of the Asian Games due to illness.

There were doubts surrounding his participation in the Afghanistan Test as well, as he missed out on the lone two-day practice match, which concluded on Monday.

However, the BCB has now confirmed that the left-hander has recovered in time and will be a part of the squad in the UAE.

The lone Test is set to take place at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi from October 9.

The Test is not part of the ICC World Test Championship.
